Organically formed from the black-lipped oyster and cultivated around the islands of French Polynesia, these rare and exotic pearls come in a wide range of shapes, colors, and sizes. Similar to the South Sea pearl oyster, the black lipped oyster’s sensitivity to the cultivation process makes it both rare and expensive. Prized for being the only naturally dark pearls, Tahitian pearls come in a dramatic array of dark body colors with green, purple, and blue overtones. Although on average they are smaller than South Sea pearls, they are among the larger pearl types, averaging between 8mm-16mm.
